The Last of Us. Gustavo Santaolalla

I can honestly say I've never listened to a video game soundtrack.  And if Gustavo Santaolalla's score for The Last of Us is any indication, I've been making a big mistake. By absolutely any standard, this is a beautiful album.  The atmosphere is completely haunting and desolate. Sparse instrumentation is occasionally contrasted by what sounds like the beginning of a country song, or an orchestra piece. But just as quickly as they appear, they're gone. And you're left with an ambient mood, and some percussion.  This is completely brilliant if you know anything about The Last of Us, or have any idea of what the apocalypse is.  So do yourself a favor, and listen to it.  You won't be disappointed. Seriously...listen to it. Like right now.
